Pilates

Pilates addresses the importance of core stability and provides clients with an understanding of correct posture and muscle use, thereby reducing injury and providing rehabilitation when injury occurs. Internalizing this awareness is an integral part of a professional dancer's training but it is also a basic requirement for all highly developed body skills whether demonstrated by a footballer, athlete, gymnast or professional musician. Such awareness is also paramount to maintaining good physical health for each and every one of us.

Gyrotonic®

GYROTONIC® improves mobility of joints and the spine and increases muscular contraction and extension. It is a modern technique created for professional sportspersons and artists who put great strain on their joints and muscles and are subject to constant injury, but it has also become recognised as invaluable for body joint improvement and greater mobility amongst a wider range of the general public.

Garuda

The Garuda begins where other exercise forms finish. It takes the clarity and mindfulness of Pilates as its root, adds the economy of Alexander technique, the proprioception of Feldenkrais, the soulfulness and spirituality of Yoga and the enjoyment of movement in dance to create the excitement experienced in the creativity and flow of the Garuda exercise. Campbell and Anna are the first Garuda teachers and teacher trainers in Australia and work regularly with the founder of the Garuda technique both overseas and in Australia.

It is the opportunity to bring these three techniques together that provides the unique challenge of the work found at Studio 165 and enables Anna and Campbell to provide a wide range of remedial treatments.

Pilates and Gyrotonic® technique for professional dance training

Over the last decade both Pilates and the Gyrotonic® technique have become an integral part of dance training and form a necessary component in the development of young dancers aspiring to a professional career in the world of dance. Understanding correct muscle use, improving technique and managing injuries plays a vital role in any successful dance career.

Internationally, the best schools teaching ballet have now come to see the significant role that Pilates and Gyrotonic® play in ensuring the health and well-being of young dancers who by nature of their daily activities in the dance studio are continuously exposed to the risk of injury and muscular stress related activities.

In their provision of these rehabilitative treatments Campbell McKenzie and Anna Tetlow are able to utilize their long experience in professional ballet as a vital support for their Pilates and Gyrotonic® training techniques.
