The GARUDA - The ultimate Pilates Experience exclusive to Australasia at Studio 165. Garuda keeps to the principles of Pilates but taken the repertoire and the ideology to a very exciting new level.
The GARUDA is a truly unique, new and revolutionary exercise apparatus. The Garuda combines the movement and versatility of the Reformer and the Cadillac with the precision of the Wunda Chair – providing a seemingly endless range of exercise options.
The GARUDA offers a new level of exercise diversity due to the increased size of the carriage, increased range of movement within the framework and near limitless adjustability of the pulleys, ropes, bars and straps. Combined with a split carriage this takes exercise, body conditioning and rehabilitation to a new level.
The GARUDA is a new and improved way to isolate muscle groups and break down motions into targeted moves that can be crucial for those following sports-specific training or undergoing a rehabilitation programme. It can be used to progress movement and address the functional needs of all ages and abilities.
The GARUDA was designed and created by James D'Silva in London.
In Indian mythology the GARUDA is a large mythical bird that changes its shape according to its purpose. Thus the name aptly describes our new exercise system, which is unique in its versatility, flexibility and precision of movement.
GARUDA begins where other exercise forms finish. It is alive and complete in itself as an exercise form. It takes the clarity and mindfulness of pilates as its root, adds the economy of form of Alexander Technique, the proprioception of Feldenkrais, the soulfulness and spirituality of Yoga and the enjoyment of movement in dance to create the excitement of sheer endless possibility, creativity and flow of GARUDA exercise.
James believes that exercise needs to be varied and creative to challenge both mind and body. Stagnation and repetition provide no opportunity for development in the long term. Therefore the GARUDA repertoire is continually being developed and expanded. It is exceptionally wide-ranging, adaptable and focussed on achieving results by creating a strong, flexible and functional body.
Frustrated with the limitations of traditional exercise machines James worked closely with Engineer Glynn Barber to create an exercise apparatus, which could serve a range of unlimited movement material. The result is the GARUDA. It is cutting edge in its highest quality design values and functionality. With its large split platform, chair attachment, increased range of movement within the framework and near limitless adjustability of the pulleys, ropes, bars and straps it takes exercise, body conditioning and rehabilitation to a new level.
The GARUDA apparatus and movement syllabus provide a new and improved way to isolate muscle groups and break down motions into targeted moves that can be crucial for those following sports-specific training or undergoing a rehabilitation programme. It can be used to progress movement and address the functional needs of all ages and abilities. At his studio and clinic James works closely and consistently with Osteopaths and Physiotherapists to create new functional and injury specific rehab programmes. Additionally he studies the exact needs and abilities of athletes and dancers to develop targeted strength and endurance based workout series.
GARUDA creates strength, flexibility, coordination, endurance and range of motion within muscles and joints. The result is a stronger, leaner body, improved posture and ease of movement in every day life. The uninterrupted and continuous flow of each exercise series also provides a cardiovascular workout. Last but not least it focuses the mind and offers relaxation within exercise.
GARUDA is committed to excellence and we intend to exceed your expectations.
