Over the last decade both Pilates and the GYROTONIC® technique have become an integral part of dance training and form a necessary component in the development of young dancers aspiring to a professional career in the world of dance. Understanding correct muscle use, improving technique and managing injury plays a vital role in any successful professional dance career.
Pilates addresses the importance of core stability and provides students with an understanding of correct posture and muscle use for dance, thereby reducing injury as well as providing relief and rehabilitation when injuries occur.
GYROTONIC® improves the mobility of the joints and the spine and increases muscular contraction and extension; it is a technique created by a professional dancer for dancers and requires constant updating of skills to maintain full accreditation.
Internationally, the best schools teaching ballet have now come to see the significant role that Pilates and GYROTONIC® play in ensuring the health and well-being of young dancers who by nature of their daily activities in the dance studios are continuously exposed to the risk of injury and muscular stress related problems.
In their provision of these rehabilative treatments Campbell Mckenzie and Anna Tetlow have themselves had long experience in professional ballet. Campbell Mckenzie trained at the Australian Ballet School and danced for 18 years professionally. He has been a principal dancer at The Australian Ballet, The Royal Ballet, The Scottish Ballet, London City Ballet, in the musical Cats and West Side Story and a guest principle dancer internationally. Anna Tetlow trained at The Royal Ballet School and performed professionally with companies including The Birmingham Royal Ballet, The Scottish Ballet, London City Ballet touring internationally for 10 years. Over these years of intensive full time performing they have come to understand from first hand experience of injury management the need to reinforce both training and performance with a safety net of care and rehabilitation. Campbell Mckenzie continues to teach, coach and examines dance and Anna Tetlow examines ballet.
